Butterfly valves & Its types. Explained.
What is a Butterfly valve? And Its Types
The butterfly
valve is a closing valve with a relatively simple construction. In a closed
position, the disc blocks the valve hole when in the open position, the disc is
rotated to allow flow. A quarter turn takes the valve from the fully open
position to the fully closed, or opposite position, and thus the butterfly
valve allows for quick opening and closing.
Butterfly valves
can be used for a variety of applications in water supply, wastewater
treatment, fire protection and gas supply, in the chemical and oil industries,
in fuel handling systems, power generation etc. Some advantages for this type
of valve are that simple construction does not take up too much space, and is
lightweight and costs less than other valve designs.
Valves can be operated with handles, gears or actuators
according to specific needs.
Main design of butterfly valves
The butterfly
valve can be centric or eccentric. In the butterfly valve centric (concentric),
the stem is in the middle of the discs
and discs in the middle of the hole. Eccentric butterfly valves have one or
more rods (stub shaft) that are located offsets from the center according to
the categories of single, double and triple offset valves.
